Tim Ryan

Irish designer Tim Ryan's latest collection is his best yet
ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING
Currently stocked in Browns London
This collection should take him on to new and dizzying heights
If buyers don't sit up and take notice ............. well I believe they will
Such a talent

New collection by Eilis Boyle

Incredible new collection by Eilis Boyle

so beautiful
Eilis talks often on her blog about
the struggles of being creative and
having to pay the electricity bill
This collection was all about bursting through
that struggle and trying to find her
"true identity"
through design

I believe she succeeded
to see more go here
........ and she used a Helen James headpiece
in the shot above
never looked so good

Limerick school of Art and Design

Last week I had the honour of judging the
Limerick School of Art and Design
Final year Fashion Students.
The standard was incredible.
Truly I was blown away by the innovation
and craftsmanship of the pieces.

I want to say a HUGE congratulations
to ALL the students.

I was armed only with my iphone
so here are some, not so great, snaps.

And the winning collection by Sarah Melody

Oh these images do not do the collections justice.

Such Talent.
The question is what do the 31 students do now?
The reality is when I left college back in 1992
Emigrating was pretty much taken for granted.
There were no jobs in Ireland for a textile design graduate.
During the last 15 years maybe more people stayed here?
Now, I think people will be off again.
Graduates often ask me about what they should do when they leave college.
They want to set up a label
They want to design a collection
My advice is always to gain experience working for someone else
before embarking on a solo career
There are things that can only be learned through experience in a workplace
and for that the opportunities in Ireland exist but are minimal.

Whatever the 2010 graduates decide to do I wish them all the best of luck and urge them
to hold on to their sense of humour.

Update
Some more images from the show

ps I have not included all the collections because
a) there were 31
b) not all the photo's are usable

Magnificent Irish Fashion

This incredible fashion shoot was created by Stylist Jan Brierton and Photographer Lorna Fitzsimons

Here are some interesting facts about this shoot

1 Most of the pieces created are by Irish designers
Aine Mcdonnell
and me:  Helen James

2 The shoot was styled and shot and sent out to major newspapers and magazines in Ireland

3 It was never published................................

Why? Why was this innovative and remarkable shoot, that celebrates the talent in this country,  never used.
You would think that with tight budgets Periodicals would jump at the chance to publish these images that are handed to them on a platter!
I do not understand
Maybe one of you; my readers, know why
Maybe one of you works in the print industry here and you can explain why these pictures which are magnificent and extol the work being created here have never before seen the light of day.

UPDATE: After the incredible response to these images publishing them may be pursued once more.
I will keep you updated and thanks for all your encouraging words.
